DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. -- A rare $4,400 red-vented Philippine Cockatoo that was stolen from South Florida's largest exotic bird store during the weekend has been recovered, Golden Cockatoo officials announced.
The bird was stolen Friday from the Golden Cockatoo, 360 S. Powerline Rd., in Deerfield Beach.
Saturday, the Broward Sheriff's Office arrested a man they said was caught on security cameras stealing the bird, which was safely returned to the store.
"Our surveillance cameras caught a man who lives close to the store stealing the bird," said Golden Cockatoo co-owner Ian Brown. "I called BSO and they were here in less than a minute."
According to Brown, the alleged bird thief had been drinking heavily before heading to the Golden Cockatoo on his bicycle and stealing the rare bird.
