Exotic birds are the pet industries best kept secret - they make unbelievable companions. However, parrots are not for everyone; they can live over 60 years, have very strong personalities, and require daily attention (playing and affection, as well as feeding and cleaning. Yes, parrots LOVE to play!). That being said, nearly all pet people who get their first bird come back to say that they can not believe how rewarding parrot ownership is, and that they are amazed and entertained by their incredible intelligence!

One last word of advice - NEVER BUY AN UNWEANED BABY PARROT ! In fact this practice has been outlawed in many states. Reputable stores and breeders will only sell weaned birds. Reasons include possible aspiration (drowning the bird with hand feeding formula), vet bills, overbonding, sickness,and the resulting behavioral problems. These issues will exceed any perceived savings. If we have a difficult time raising healthy, socialized babies, then how will you?
